French Courses & Programs

Our courses and programs are designed to support bilingual and multilingual families in maintaining and developing their children’s French language skills. We follow the FLAM framework, with a focus on literacy, oral fluency, and cultural understanding through immersive, small-group learning.

All classes are taught by native French-speaking educators with experience in multilingual classrooms. Parents and community members also contribute actively — co-leading workshops, supporting classroom activities, and helping bring our cultural events to life.

Our Courses

Early Exploration

Éveil (2–6 years): Bi-monthly workshops based on children’s books and fun activities to help children manipulate language, build oral skills, and explore the world of writing from an early age — either before or alongside FLAM course integration.

FLAM (for children who speak French daily)

Voyageurs (3–4 years): Development of oral language through songs, games, and verbal interaction. Focus on understanding and expressing oneself in French.
Navigateurs (5 years): Introduction to phonemes and graphemes to prepare for reading. Emphasis on oral expression: telling stories, describing objects, and asking questions.

Curieux (6 years): Focus on reading fluency and mastering specific, complex phonemes and graphemes.
Aviateurs (7 years): Development of reading fluency and the introduction of complex sound patterns and spelling.
Aventuriers (8 years): Grammar and spelling foundations with reading and writing across a variety of text genres.
Explorateurs (9–10 years): In-depth grammar, conjugation, and spelling instruction, with a focus on oral communication and vocabulary building through world discovery topics.
Rêveurs (11 years and up): Reinforcement of grammar and vocabulary through writing, presentations, and group projects. Focus on advanced comprehension and oral expression.

FLE (for non-native speakers)

Mini-French (3–7 years): A discovery class using songs, rhymes, stories, finger games, and crafts. The class is held in French, with brief explanations in another language if needed. No prior French is required, and a parent is encouraged to stay.
Maxi-French (8+ years): For non-native speakers. Focus on basic communication and understanding familiar topics in French (A1–A2 level).

Support & Private Lessons

Soutien’PRIM: Weekly personalized support sessions for students following a French learning curriculum (CNED, Griffon method, etc.), suitable for those preparing to return to French schooling. Students bring their own method.
Private Lessons: Available for individuals or small groups (maximum of 3 students) seeking personalized instruction.

How to Register

Our programs are built on four foundational pillars that shape our teaching approach. Each pillar reflects a core element of our mission — to help children not just learn French, but live it. From immersive classes to cultural expression, our goal is to support students in using the language confidently at home, in school, and in the world.

Become a Member

To join our French courses and participate in cultural activities, each child must be a registered member of the association.

The annual membership fee is 200 NOK per child for the 2026–2027 school year and included:

Registration

We welcome new students year-round. To get started, just fill out one registration form per child. We’ll review each child’s background and language level to help recommend the most suitable course.

Schedule

Courses follow the Stavanger school calendar and pause during holidays and planning days.

Tuition & Fees

All new students begin with a two-session trial period — no commitment required! After that, families may choose to continue for the rest of the semester.

Classes are billed :

Group classes (September to December 2026): NOK 1,500 (except special cases)
Group classes (January to mid-June 2027): NOK 2,000 (except special cases)
Private lessons: NOK 480 per hour, for up to 3 participants
Eveil: NOK 90 per session, or NOK 600 for an 8-session pass

Tuition is invoiced as a semester package, depending on the number of weeks. Payment is made by bank transfer.

If you need to cancel your child’s enrollment, please let us know by email. Tuition is non-refundable after the trial period has ended.

To support our students’ progress, DMUM uses a range of trusted, high-quality educational tools. These reinforce oral and written skills, support various learning styles, and offer continuity between class time and home learning.

A digital platform developed for Francophone children living abroad. It offers interactive exercises tailored to different levels, helping students build grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension skills.

Diver’Cité: Learning Through Culture and Creativity

DMUM’s featured cultural project for the 2025–2026 academic year is Diver’Cité — a year-long initiative that brings language learning to life through storytelling, media, and creative exploration. Built around the theme of identity and diversity, Diver’Cité engages all our students, regardless of age, in dynamic projects that highlight their voices and celebrate the richness of the Francophone world.

Through this program, students explore their own cultural roots, connect with their peers, and discover new ways to express themselves in French.
